THE BENEFITS OF A REVERSE MORTGAGE
A reverse mortgage loan allows you to turn your largest asset – you home- into a customized pension plan.
There are many benefits to making the most of your biggest asset:
- The Homeowner continues to own and occupy the home for the rest of their days. It is not possible to be evicted or foreclosed upon for non-payment. The lender does not want your home. This is a loan secured by the expected future value of the home.
- There is no tax due on the money received. The homeowner receives proceeds of a loan from an asset they already own. The interest accumulated and is deductible one the home is sold.
- Any other government benefits (such as SS, SSI, Medicare, Medicaid or others) are still available in full to the Homeowner. The exemption benefit available to people over 55 (for the equity when the home is sold is also preserved. In fact, if Medicaid is used for the payment of nursing home bills for a surviving spouse then a reverse mortgage allows the Homeowner to get the most our of the home, rather than Uncle Sam.
