Did You Get Your Check Yet?

The government began issuing economic stimulus checks to all who filed a 2007 tax return on April 28 of this year in an attempt to kick-start the stalling economy. The stimulus checks were designed to entice consumers to spend their “free” money on a variety of products and services such as electronics, restaurants, and retailers. As economic conditions have deteriorated and inflation has escalated since the stimulus plan was first hatched, many consumers are more likely to pay off debt, fill their gas tanks, and stock their pantry shelves contrary to the government’s intentions.

The payments are issued based on the order of the last two digits of your Social Security number. Those who selected direct deposit when filing returns will receive payments prior to those who will receive a paper check. If more than one person is listed on the tax return, the payment schedule will be based on the Social Security number of the first person listed.
