Can I sign home equity loan papers at my house and mail them in?

Q: Can I sign home equity loan papers at my house and mail them in?

A: Whether or not you can simply sign the home equity loan papers and send them in will generally be dictated by your lender's policy. They may be fine with you executing the paperwork and mailing it, or they may prefer to have you come into a branch and sit down with a loan officer, who can review the paperwork with you and make sure that you sign, initial and date various locations as required.

It is also possible that your home equity loan lender might send someone out to your home; this is more commonplace with mortgages (refinances) but not unheard of for home equity products.

You should give your lender a call and inquire.
